NEA to provide jobs to families of Gen-Z movement martyrs

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to provide employment to family members of those declared martyrs during the Gen-Z movement held on September 8 and 9, in line with a government decision.

A meeting of the NEA Board, chaired by former Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, on Tuesday decided to employ 27 members from martyr families.

According to the decision, applications for employment had been submitted by 27 members of Gen-Z martyr families. After verification, they will be appointed on a contract basis to posts up to a maximum of three levels, depending on their academic qualifications, at NEA offices nearest to their place of residence.

Ghising said the decision was taken based on the agreement reached between the government and representatives of the Gen-Z movement, the assistance-related procedures approved by the Cabinet, and applications submitted by members of martyr families.

As per the approved procedures, individuals injured or disabled during the Gen-Z protests, their close family members, and families of martyrs are entitled to various forms of state support in accordance with prevailing laws.

These include free education arranged through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, and employment opportunities coordinated through sectoral ministries such as Labour, Employment and Social Security; Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation; Urban Development; Drinking Water; Physical Infrastructure and Transport; Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation; Youth and Sports; and Industry, Commerce and Supplies.

The government has declared 45 individuals who lost their lives during the Gen-Z movement as martyrs.
