BARDIYA: Bardiya National Park has installed cameras in Sauri, Ward 1 of Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality, Kusum, to track a tiger suspected of attacking humans.
Despite setting up five cameras around the incident site, the tiger has not yet been spotted, said Senior Conservation Officer Birendra Prasad Kandel of the park.
“We are monitoring the area with cameras, but the tiger has not appeared so far,” Kandel said. “Since it has not returned to the accident site, it likely moved along its usual route after feeding.”
The tiger attacked 62-year-old Marichman Bhandari last Saturday while he was grazing cattle, resulting in his death. The incident has left the local Sauri community in fear.
Kandel suggested that the tiger may have attacked Bhandari to protect its prey. “The tiger was likely feeding on a cow when Bhandari approached nearby, prompting the tiger to attack to safeguard its meal,” he explained.
The park continues to monitor the area and urged locals to exercise caution while moving near forested zones.
