Seven arrested in Balkhu for consuming drugs at ticket counter



KATHMANDU: Seven employees working at the ticket counter of Sumo and EV vans in Balkhu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14, have been arrested on charges of consuming drugs.

According to District Police Range Kathmandu Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, the arrests were made after a police team from Nepal Police Hospital Maharajgunj, along with technical lab technicians and officials from the Narcotics Control Bureau Koteshwor and Police Circle Kalimati, conducted tests that confirmed drug consumption.

Those arrested include Basanta Kumar Yadav, 20, of Rautahat and Balkhu; Sajan Gurung, 27, of Kabilas, Chitwan, and Lainchaur; Paras Gurung, 23, of Bandipur, Tanahun, and Satdobato, Lalitpur; 38-year-old Vicky Shrestha, a resident of Jhapa living in Balkhu; 42-year-old Arjun Bhandari, of Balkhu; and 24-year-old Asmin Lamichhane, originally from Galchhi, Dhading, now residing in Chandragiri, Kathmandu.

The police said the team was deployed following reports that the individuals were causing trouble and harassing passengers and pedestrians while consuming drugs.

All seven have been taken into custody and presented before the Kathmandu District Court, which on Monday extended their remand by five days for further investigation into the drug consumption case, Superintendent Bhattarai added.
