Attorney General’s Office submits annual report to President



KATHMANDU: The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) presented its annual report for fiscal year 2024/25 to President Ram Chandra Paudel on Monday.

The report was submitted by Attorney General Sabita Bhandari at a program held at the President’s official residence, Sheetal Niwas.

According to the report, the AGO disposed of 75,165 cases, writs, and petitions filed in various courts, with the government prevailing in 66.34% of the cases.

During this fiscal year, 59,355 cases filed across investigative agencies had the Government of Nepal as the plaintiff. The AGO pursued 42,109 of these cases, involving 66,382 individuals. Meanwhile, in 4,547 cases, 4,841 individuals were cleared of charges. The office also mediated in 2,612 out of 3,075 defendant-involved cases.

The report further stated that legal opinions were requested on 52 subjects, of which advice was provided on 47 cases.

The total number of cases, writs, and petitions argued or defended by the AGO and its subordinate offices amounted to 127,409. Of these, 105,036 were government-plaintiff cases, 16,514 were writs filed against the government, and 5,859 were other petitions, marking a 3.9% decrease compared to the previous fiscal year.

Under Article 159(1) of the Constitution, the Attorney General is mandated to prepare an annual report of activities conducted in accordance with the Constitution and federal laws and present it to the President.
