Nepali Embassy in UK urges caution against fraud

LONDON: The Nepali Embassy in London has urged Nepalis to remain cautious amid a rise in fraud cases carried out under the pretext of providing “work permits” in the United Kingdom.

In a statement, the embassy said complaints have increased involving fraudsters claiming to arrange sponsors or work permits for employment in the UK. A large number of the reported cases involve Nepali citizens in Nepal seeking to travel to the UK for work, the statement noted.

The embassy also said that fraud complaints are rising among Nepalis already residing in the UK who are searching for employment. “It is understood that some of the fraudsters are of Nepali origin, and there have also been complaints from victims who were deceived after being introduced to individuals in third countries through people they knew in Nepal,” the statement said.

Noting that such offenses are punishable under the laws of both Nepal and the UK, the embassy advised victims to file complaints with Nepal’s investigative agencies, local police in the UK, and the UK’s National Anti-Fraud Network, Action Fraud.

Acting Nepali Ambassador to the UK, Bipin Duwadi, said the embassy is ready to assist victims who come forward with evidence. The embassy has urged Nepalis facing such problems to contact it via email or by calling +44 7404 939274.
