Culture Ministry calls for intangible heritage listing by March 29

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation has issued a public notice calling for the listing of intangible cultural heritage by March 29.

Individuals, communities, or organizations associated with intangible cultural heritage are required to submit applications as per the internal guidelines mentioned in the notice.

The ministry has made available the internal guidelines and forms related to the listing and management of intangible cultural heritage on its official website.

Applicants must submit seven types of documents and evidence along with their application to the Department of Culture, according to Bhishma Baskota, an archaeology officer at the ministry. He said all applications must be submitted by March 29.

Required documents include: a complete description of the heritage, consent from the associated individual, group, or community, photographs, audio and video records, details of traditional transmission, recommendation from the local government, and evidence if the heritage is already listed locally.

Last year, following a similar call, the traditional food item “Yomari” from Lalitpur was successfully listed as an intangible cultural heritage.
