Immigration Department launches Foreign National Management Information System

KATHMANDU: The Department of Immigration has brought the Foreign National Management Information System into operation, aiming to strengthen the management and monitoring of foreign nationals visiting Nepal.

The system was formally inaugurated by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal at a program held in Kathmandu on Thursday.

According to the Department, the new system has been introduced to enhance the safety of foreign nationals visiting Nepal, facilitate information management, control potential crimes, and support the promotion of Nepal’s tourism sector.

While inaugurating the system, Home Minister Aryal said it was implemented as part of the strategic plan for immigration reform to make the management of information related to the stay of foreign nationals in Nepal more result-oriented.

He said the system would help effectively record the entry, movement, and stay of foreign nationals in line with immigration laws, further strengthen their security, and facilitate rescue and search operations during disasters.

The Home Minister expressed confidence that the system would also support effective investigation of various crimes by monitoring undesirable activities of foreign nationals and contribute to developing Nepal as a safe tourist destination globally.

Aryal further said the current government is preparing for elections with the objective of ensuring good governance, guaranteeing a corruption-free administration, upholding the rule of law, and transferring responsibility through elections.

Department of Immigration Director General Ramchandra Tiwari said that in the first phase, the system will be made mandatory for star-rated hotels within the Kathmandu Valley, and will be expanded to all concerned stakeholders across the country within two months.

He said the system would make the movement and stay of foreign nationals more effective in accordance with immigration laws and further strengthen the personal security of visitors.
