Mechi Customs Office records Rs 20.14 billion in imports over five months



JHAPA: Goods worth Rs 20.14 billion were imported through the eastern border point of Kakarbhitta by mid-December of the current fiscal year 2025/26.

According to Mechi Customs Office Information Officer and Customs Officer Ishwar Kumar Humagain, imports during the period increased by Rs 1.41 billion, or 7.57 percent, compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year 2025/25, when imports totaled Rs 18.72 billion.

In contrast, exports from the border point declined during the first five months of the current fiscal year. Goods worth Rs 10.71 billion were exported during the period, down from Rs 11.47 billion in the corresponding period last year, marking a decrease of 6.65 percent.

Major export items from the eastern border include cardamom, tea, plywood, veneer sheets, chhurpi, ginger, dried beans, lentils, and iron sheets. Key imports consist of petroleum products, ready-made garments, vegetables, vehicles and spare parts, cement clinker, cosmetics, coffee, plastic raw materials, footwear, and mineral products.

The customs office reported that revenue collection from import and export transactions reached Rs 6.82 billion by December in the current fiscal year.
