538 houses in one ward gain access to drinking water

BAGLUNG: Under the Gandaki Provincial Government’s campaign to provide drinking water taps to every household, 538 houses in Ward No. 5 of Tarakhola Rural Municipality in Baglung have now been connected to drinking water.

Out of a total of 595 houses in the ward, drinking water taps have been installed in 538 homes so far, bringing relief and satisfaction to local residents. The provincial government invested around Rs 20 million to supply water from 18 natural springs through an integrated system. Ward Chairman Man Bahadur Roka said that only 22 houses remain to be connected.

“Clean drinking water is the foundation of development, and our goal of providing water across the ward is close to being achieved,” Roka said. “It is a matter of happiness for us that private taps have been installed in 538 households. With the support of the Gandaki Provincial Government, water from 18 springs has been distributed under the one-house-one-tap system.”

According to him, taps have been installed in settlements including Karimela, Dhasmar, Ranibas, Tatamata, Chhellar Khola, Nangi, Auladi, Sano Hile, Thulo Hile, Sip, Phedi, Palim, Phudekharka, Machhar, Bhirkuna and Argatung. Access to drinking water has eased daily life for residents, saved time, and contributed to improved sanitation.

Locals say the “One House, One Tap” campaign launched in 2075 BS has finally delivered results. Kul Bahadur Roka, a local resident, said the installation of household taps has ended the long-standing need to travel to distant community taps, wells, or other sources to fetch water.
