Efficiency, integrity key to strong parliament: Speaker Ghimire

KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has called on all stakeholders to promote accountable parliamentary practices by further strengthening efficiency and professional integrity.

Issuing a message on the occasion of Parliament Service Day–2082, Speaker Ghimire extended best wishes for happiness, peace and progress to civil servants working at the Federal Parliament Secretariat. He urged parliamentary employees to uphold accountability by enhancing their efficiency and professional ethics.

Parliament Service Day is observed annually on Mangsir 28 (December 14) to mark the establishment of the Parliament Service under a separate act 19 years ago, with the aim of making parliamentary processes more effective, dignified and professional.

Speaker Ghimire emphasised that the Parliamentary Service plays a vital role in supporting the Federal Parliament, the country’s highest representative institution, by providing essential administrative and technical assistance. He noted that its contribution is crucial to the effective implementation of the constitution and the law-making process.

“Parliamentary service carries the sacred responsibility of keeping Parliament functional as a temple of democracy,” he said, adding, “A politically neutral, professionally competent and procedurally transparent staff system forms the foundation of a vibrant Parliament.”
