Two arrested for robbery, arson and vandalism inside Hyatt casino during September protests



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two individuals accused of involvement in robbery, vandalism and arson inside the casino of Hyatt Hotel during the September 8 and 9 protests in Kathmandu.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Dawa Sherpa, 42, also known as “Seddy,” from Boudha, and Ranjit Khadgi, 29, also known as “Rane,” from Budhanilkantha Municipality-12. They were apprehended on November 28 from the Budhanilkantha area, according to Kathmandu Valley Police.

Police said an unidentified group had brandished sharp weapons and looted cash from the casino counter before vandalizing property and setting fire to structures inside the casino. Both suspects had fled the scene after the incident.

The Kathmandu District Court has granted police a seven-day remand to investigate charges related to theft, robbery, and criminal vandalism.

According to District Police Range spokesperson Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, further investigation into the incident is underway.
