Madhesh parties to stake claim for new government by 5 PM today

JANAKPURDHAM: Political parties in Madhesh Province are set to stake their claim to form a new government by 5 PM today, as per the deadline given by the Province Head.

With the deadline approaching, parties have intensified internal discussions since early morning to finalize their strategies.

A seven-party alliance, excluding the CPN-UML, is attempting to agree on a common candidate for Chief Minister.

The process to form a new government began after former Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav tendered his resignation. The Supreme Court had earlier ordered Yadav to seek a vote of confidence within 24 hours under Article 168(2) of the Constitution.

Seeing no possibility of securing the required majority, Yadav resigned on Wednesday, prompting Province Chief Surendra Labh Karna to call on any Provincial Assembly member capable of securing a majority to present their claim.

Political parties are now holding continuous negotiations to determine who will lead the next government in Madhesh Province.
