KATHMANDU: Senior Vice Chair Ishwar Pokharel and several other leaders of the CPN-UML visited party chair KP Sharma Oli in Gundu, Bhaktapur, on Thursday to discuss the ongoing dispute over representative selection.
According to sources, the leaders held discussions with Oli for about an hour and a half. They urged him to resolve the dispute promptly and move forward.
“As the general convention is approaching, the disputes in the districts need to be settled. This situation does not send a good message,” said one of the leaders who accompanied Pokharel. “At a time when the UML is facing attacks from all sides, keeping the representative row unresolved sends the wrong signal.”
The leaders noted that with only around nine days left before the general convention, the ongoing uncertainty has created further confusion. They said they advised Oli to find a quick resolution.
Vice Chairs Asta Laxmi Shakya and Surendra Pandey, as well as Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai, were also present at the meeting in Gundu.
Speaking to Khabarhub, one of the UML leaders said, “We discussed only the representative-related issue this time. We had to leave quickly.”
During the meeting, Oli reportedly suggested that Pokharel should provide consensual leadership at the 11th General Convention. Pokharel, on the other hand, said Oli should hand over the leadership to him.
Pokharel is said to have firmly told Oli that he has already moved ahead in the process and will not step back.
