UML 11th General Convention: Nomination process concludes in all districts except two

The nomination process for representatives to the 11th General Convention of CPN-UML has concluded in all districts except Okhaldhunga and Dhankuta. Madhav Dhungel, Secretary of the General Convention Representatives Management Committee, confirmed that nominations in these two districts are yet to be finalized, and elections for representatives there are expected to take place within four days.

Ghising calls for new leadership to drive change at Ujyalo Nepal Party launch

Energy, Physical Infrastructure, and Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising has stated that the leadership of change must now come from new and alternative individuals, institutions, and political parties. Speaking at the formal launch of the Ujyalo Nepal Party in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Ghising said the forces regarded as alternatives should unite to lead change in line with the aspirations and wishes of the people.

Short’s half-century powers Lumbini Lions to five-wicket win over Biratnagar Kings

A commanding half-century from opener D’Arcy Short guided Lumbini Lions to a five-wicket victory over Biratnagar Kings in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) Season 2 match on Wednesday. Chasing a 145-run target at the TU International Cricket Ground, Lumbini reached 145/5 in 17.4 overs. The win has strengthened Lumbini’s chances of reaching the playoffs, taking them to fourth place on the table with six points. Their playoff hopes, however, still depend on the results of other teams.

Bishnu Paudel formally backs KP Oli for UML Chair ahead of 11th General Convention

CPN-UML Vice Chair Bishnu Paudel has formally announced his support for party Chair KP Sharma Oli in the upcoming 11th General Convention, ending speculation over his alignment in the internal leadership race. Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Paudel said he has already decided to back Oli for the top post. “Having served as the party’s General Secretary, I will not claim that position again. I am prepared to take the Vice Chair role,” he said.

PM Karki says anti-corruption drive will not stop

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said the government will not halt its crackdown on corruption, adding that both election preparations and anti-graft actions are being advanced in line with the spirit of the Gen-Z movement. Speaking during a meeting with a delegation led by Sudan Kirati, Chair of the newly formed Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party, at Singha Durbar on Wednesday, PM Karki said the government remains committed to the reforms demanded by the youth uprising.

CIB reveals how Nalinchowk Heliport project bypassed proper procedures

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIB) has filed a corruption case against seven individuals, including Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Director General Pradip Adhikari, over the construction of the Nalinchok Heliport in Bhaktapur. The Commission claims that key officials bypassed legal procedures, misled the Board, and advanced the project in bad faith.

Four different groups associated with the Gen-Z movement have jointly claimed that the current government has lost its moral authority. In a joint statement, the groups said the government’s legitimacy is in question as interim ministers continue to align politically with different parties. They termed such political engagement while holding executive office as a blatant violation of the principles of the government, the oath of office, and public ethics.

Supreme Court issues show-cause order in UML petition against dissolution of House

The Supreme Court has issued a show-cause order to the government and other respondents in a writ filed by CPN-UML challenging the formation of the federal government and the dissolution of the House of Representatives. The Constitutional Bench has directed the respondents to submit a written response within seven days.

Madhesh Province calls for new government formation following CM Yadav’s resignation

Following the resignation of Madhesh Province Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav, the provincial head has called for the formation of a new government. On Wednesday, Province Head Surendra Lal Karna issued the formal call for a new administration. The Chief Minister’s resignation, submitted under Article 169(1)(a) of the Constitution of Nepal, was accepted on December 3, according to the Province Head’s office.

Gagan Thapa gears up to contest for NC President at 15th General Convention

Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa is preparing to contest for the party presidency at the 15th General Convention scheduled to begin on January 11 in Kathmandu. According to leaders close to Thapa, he has already started building his team and planning strategies for the upcoming leadership race. Shankar Kuinkel, a member of Thapa’s secretariat, confirmed that Thapa is actively preparing to vie for the top position in the party.

NEPSE drops 13.52 points as market sees over Rs 5.23 billion in turnover

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell by 13.52 points on Wednesday, closing at 2,631.17 amid heavy trading activity worth Rs 5.23 billion. A total of 177 listed companies saw their share prices decline, while 74 recorded gains. The prices of seven companies remained unchanged.

CIAA presents CAAN DG Pradip Adhikari in Special Court

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Wednesday presented Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Director General Pradip Adhikari before the Special Court in connection with alleged corruption worth around Rs 130 million in the construction of the helipad at Nalinchowk, Bhaktapur. Alongside Adhikari, the case also names CAAN Director Murari Bhandari. The CIAA has filed a corruption case against both officials, as well as the contractor company and five other individuals involved in the project.

On Wednesday, the bureau arrested Guna Airlines operator Rajendra Shakya from Kathmandu under charges outlined in the Banking Offenses and Punishment Act, 2008.
