Madhesh Provincial Assembly meeting stalled after CM Saroj Yadav fails to appear for confidence vote

JANAKPURDHAM: The Madhesh Provincial Assembly meeting scheduled for Wednesday morning to conduct a mandatory vote of confidence has been postponed after Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav and government representatives failed to appear.

Deputy Speaker Babita Kumari Raut Ishar informed that the meeting, originally convened to allow CM Yadav to seek a vote of confidence, has been deferred until 2 PM today.

The session had been called under Article 168(4) of the Constitution of Nepal, which requires a Chief Minister appointed as the leader of the largest party in the Provincial Assembly to secure a vote of confidence within a stipulated time.

Chief Minister Yadav, appointed as CM in his capacity as the parliamentary party leader of the CPN-UML, the largest party in the Madhesh Provincial Assembly, was ordered by the Supreme Court on Monday to secure a vote of confidence within 24 hours. The provincial government received the apex court’s directive on Tuesday, prompting the assembly to schedule today’s session.
