17 fire incidents reported nationwide in a single day

KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority recorded information on 20 disaster-related incidents across the country from the morning of December 1 to the morning of December 2, 2025.

Of these, 17 were fire incidents. The remaining three included a landslide in Mustang, a snakebite case in Mahottari, and an animal attack in Parsa. In the Parsa incident, a 55-year-old woman from Jhulitar, Parsagadhi Municipality–3, was injured after being attacked by a tiger while collecting grass in the forest.

According to the Authority, the fires caused an estimated loss of Rs 8.291 million. Three fire incidents occurred in Siraha, two in Bhojpur, and one each in Panchthar, Morang, Udayapur, Saptari, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Lalitpur, Kaski, Kapilvastu, Gulmi, and Banke. Most of the fires appear to have been the result of carelessness.

The reported causes include cooking in cowsheds, heating pig fodder, lighting gas stoves, and electrical short circuits. Incidents involving sudden fires in electric vehicles have also been reported to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

According to the NEA, negligence remains the leading cause of fire incidents. Although such losses can be prevented through simple precautions, carelessness and a lack of public awareness continue to pose significant risks.
