Three arrested with automatic weapon in Kathmandu, linked to protest lootings



KATHMANDU: A team from the Valley Crime Investigation Office has arrested three individuals in possession of an automatic weapon, police said.

According to the office, the arrests followed intelligence indicating that the suspects were hiding firearms looted from various police stations during the demonstrations on September 23 and 24.

The arrested individuals have been identified as 28-year-old Rasil Joshi from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14, Kalanki; 19-year-old Ramchandra Kunwar (David) from Duhun-4, Darchula; and 31-year-old Birat Prasad Joshi from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-13, Bafal.

Rasil Joshi, previously arrested in a narcotics case, had escaped police custody on September 24.

Police recovered one Type 54 automatic pistol used by the Nepal Police along with two mobile phones of various brands from the trio.

All three have been handed over to the District Police Office, Bhadrakali, Kathmandu, for further investigation.
