KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two individuals in Kathmandu for their involvement in cryptocurrency transactions amounting to Rs 7.4 million.
According to Superintendent of Police Pavan Kumar Bhattarai, those arrested are Bishal Dangol, 36, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14, and Umesh Shrestha, 45, originally from Morang and currently residing in Kalanki, Kathmandu. A police team from the District Police Range, Kathmandu apprehended them from Bijulibazaar on Saturday following a tip-off.
Police have seized five mobile phones used in crypto transactions. Bhattarai said further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, police have also arrested three individuals for defrauding service seekers under the pretext of helping them obtain passports. The arrested are Hemanta Singh Okheda, 19, of Kirtipur; Manraj Shrestha, 45, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-18; and Dipesh KM, 30, of Pyuthan.
According to Superintendent of Police Kaji Kumar Acharya, they were found charging unsuspecting service seekers at the gate of the Passport Department in Tripureshwor and harassing service providers.
