KATHMANDU: Health and Population Minister Sudha Sharma says her top priorities are improving the management and supply of medicines and removing irregularities in the health insurance system.
Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Minister Sharma said the health ministry’s most problematic and corruption-prone areas are medicine procurement and supply, as well as irregularities in the insurance programme. She said these three areas will be her immediate focus.
“This government reflects the spirit of Gen-Z. In line with that sentiment, we have pledged to eradicate corruption and strengthen our systems. As I take leadership of the health ministry, I find that medicine management, supply, and the deeply flawed insurance system are the principal problems. I have placed these three issues at the top of my agenda,” she said.
Sharma added that the ministry is preparing proactive measures to prevent future complaints about medicine quality, pricing, systems and monitoring. Regarding insurance, she said a detailed study is underway to determine how to reform the current scheme and what concrete steps should be taken.
