Feasibility study begins for construction of lake at Jaljala tourism site

MYAGDI: A feasibility study has begun for the construction of a lake in the Jaljala area of Kalanjar Hampal, a natural and religious tourism site situated at the tri-border of Myagdi, Parbat, and Kaski districts.

The Jaljala region extends across Annapurna Rural Municipality of Myagdi, Jaljala and Modi Rural Municipalities of Parbat, and Annapurna Rural Municipality of Kaski. Located above 3,200 meters from sea level, the area is known for its religious significance and natural beauty.

According to Deepak Acharya, Vice-Chairperson of Jaljala Rural Municipality, the study aims to develop Jaljala into a major religious and tourist attraction. The Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project Office in Pokhara has allocated Rs 4 million in the current fiscal year for the feasibility study and preparation of the detailed project report.

A team led by Office Chief Bidur Man Shrestha—including Vice-Chairperson Acharya, representatives of political parties, people’s representatives, and technical staff—conducted an onsite inspection of the proposed lake location last week.

Acharya said the team examined geographical conditions, environmental impacts, water resource availability, long-term implications, and overall feasibility of the proposed lake. He noted that the site appears suitable for construction, with discussions also held on water management and safety measures.

Office Chief Shrestha added that the construction of the lake would help develop the Kalanjar-Hampal and Jaljala region as a religious and touristic hub, attracting both domestic and international visitors.
