JSP, Rastriya Mukti, and NUPA Nepal to contest elections together with Jato (Nepali stone grinder) symbol

KATHMANDU: The Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Nagrik Unmukti Party Nepal (NUPA), and Rastriya Mukti Party Nepal have formed an alliance to contest the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5 under a single election symbol.

The three parties announced their joint decision through a memorandum of understanding signed in Kathmandu on Sunday.

According to the agreement, all three parties will use the Jato (Nepali stone grinder) symbol registered under NUPA Nepal as their shared election symbol.

The small parties also called on other political forces with similar ideologies and goals to join under the shared symbol.

The memorandum was signed by JSP Chair Ashok Kumar Rai, Rastriya Mukti Party Nepal Chair Rajendra Mahato, and NUPA Nepal Patron Reshamlal Chaudhary.

The parties described this move as an effort to build an alternative coalition in Nepal’s increasingly bipolar national political landscape.

On the same day, six leaders including Federal Council Chair Rajendra Shrestha split from the Ashok Rai-led JSP and decided to join the Nepali Communist Party led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
