NC holding CWC meeting amid debate on 15th General Convention

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) is holding a meeting of its Central Working Committee (CWC) today at 1 pm at the party’s central office in Sanepa, party Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel said.

The meeting, which had been postponed several times, is finally taking place. All CWC office bearers, members, invited members, and all seven provincial presidents have been called to attend.

The CWC meeting, which began on October 14, has revealed differences of opinion among members regarding the timing of the party’s 15th General Convention.

Leaders including General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma advocate completing the General Convention by January next year, ahead of the House of Representatives elections on March 5, 2025. Meanwhile, leaders aligned with President Sher Bahadur Deuba insist the convention should be held only after the elections.

Thapa and Sharma have also proposed that if a regular General Convention cannot be held, a special General Convention should be organized, reflecting the views of roughly 55 percent of the delegates.
