World Children’s Day being observed today

KATHMANDU: World Children’s Day is being observed today across various countries, underscoring the need for social organizations, schools, and communities to actively listen to children’s voices and safeguard their rights.

This global day commemorates the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989, initiated by the United Nations. Led by UNICEF, World Children’s Day is celebrated worldwide to highlight children’s rights and the responsibilities of governments and societies toward protecting them.

On this occasion, UNICEF has urged all stakeholders to amplify children’s voices and to ensure their fundamental rights—including protection, education, equality, and opportunities for development. UN Secretary-General António Guterres also called on the global community to heed the concerns and aspirations of children.

Meanwhile, today is also Africa Industrialization Day. Marked annually, the day emphasizes sustainable and inclusive industrial development across Africa.

The United Nations has highlighted the importance of boosting production capacity, generating employment, diversifying economies, and reducing poverty to strengthen Africa’s overall economic resilience.
