Durga Prasai to remain in custody for 4 days for investigation

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Administration Office has granted permission to keep medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai in police custody for four days to investigate charges related to disturbing public peace.

Prasai, who was arrested at midnight on Monday, was taken to the Office of the Government Attorney and then presented at the DAO on Tuesday for a remand request. During the process, he told journalists that he had not been informed about the specific charges against him.

Police arrested Prasai on allegations of making inflammatory remarks while announcing a campaign to restore the monarchy and declare Nepal a Hindu state. Authorities said his statements posed a risk of disrupting public order.

His supporters staged protests outside the DAO Kathmandu on Tuesday, chanting slogans against his arrest as police sought an extension of his custody.

Prasai was detained from his residence in Thimi, Bhaktapur, on Monday night by a joint police team from the Kathmandu District Police Range and Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.
