KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Nepal Police Inspector General (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki was formally honored with the ceremonial insignia of his office at a special program held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday. Home Secretary Rameshwar Dangal presented the insignia to Karki during the ceremony.
In his address following the presentation, Karki pledged to strengthen the Nepal Police and enhance its professionalism. “I will ensure transparency and accountability within the Nepal Police. I am committed to citizen security and confident of continuing strong cooperation,” he said.
He emphasized that the extraordinary state of the nation makes good governance and the upcoming elections a major responsibility for the police. “There are multifaceted security challenges, and boosting police morale is a key responsibility. I will use this extraordinary responsibility as an opportunity to strengthen the organization,” he added, recalling fallen officers and honoring their sacrifices.
Karki underscored the importance of collective leadership within the force. “Even during the challenging period of the Gen-Z movement, police personnel deployed effectively to maintain security and restore services. This courage and positivity form the strong foundation of the Nepal Police,” he said.
Highlighting both domestic and international security concerns, Karki mentioned Nepal’s complex geopolitical environment and stressed the need for the police to address cybercrime, economic and financial offenses, drug trafficking, suicides, and road accidents.
“The investigation of high-tech crimes needs to be more extensive. Innovation and modern methods must be adopted. The quality of a country’s police service is also a measure of its democracy,” he said.
He further stressed the urgent need for restoring police infrastructure, equipping the force with weapons and technology, and boosting morale. “Internal purification of the police to ensure professionalism is essential. Providing resources and facilities is a current necessity,” IGP Karki said.
