Durga Prasai-led group submits 27-point demand to govt; urged to contest elections

KATHMANDU: The group led by Durga Prasai, which recently announced protests against the interim government, has submitted a 27-point demand to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Prasai’s team from the “Rashtra, Rastriyata, Dharma, Sanskriti tatha Nagarik Bachau Maha Abhiyan” presented the demand letter to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Wednesday.

After receiving the list of demands, Minister Aryal advised Prasai to register a political party and participate in the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.

Although Prasai did not personally visit Singha Durbar, his representatives submitted the memorandum to the Home Ministry.

According to Ministry Spokesperson Anand Kafle, Minister Aryal said that the demands were political in nature and therefore should be addressed through the democratic process by contesting elections.

Aryal also said the government was positive about addressing issues related to good governance and the peace process.

Among the 27 demands, Prasai’s group has called for a referendum on restoring the monarchy and reinstating Nepal as a Hindu state. They have also demanded the abolition of the provincial structure and the reinstatement of the former system of five development regions and 14 zones.

The group has further echoed some demands raised by Gen-Z activists, including the introduction of a directly elected executive prime minister.
