Kulman Ghising once served as Maoist Center’s energy department member: Saral Sahayatri

KATHMANDU: Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, who is currently preparing to launch his own political party, was once a member of the energy department of the then Maoist Center, a party insider has revealed.

Nepali Communist Party leader Saral Sahayatri made the revelation through a Facebook post, stating that Ghising had worked under the Maoist Center’s organizational structure in the past.

“The Ujyalo Nepal campaign is a fruit that blossomed from the roots of the Maoist Center, with Comrade Prachanda as the trunk, Comrade Janardan as the branch, and Comrade Kulman as the flower,” Sahayatri wrote.

Explaining why he referred to Ghising as a ‘comrade,’ Sahayatri added, “Kulman was also a member of the energy department of the then Maoist Center.”

In his post, Sahayatri cautioned Ghising against forgetting his political roots, writing, “The fruit, flower, branch, and trunk should not forget the roots that sustained them. Even if the flower or branch shows pride, a tree with strong roots continues to produce countless blossoms.”

Ghising, who rose to public prominence as the reformist head of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), has recently entered active politics and is preparing to register a new party named Ujyalo Nepal.
