UML central member Pasang Sherpa released after paying fine in polygamy case

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML central member Pasang Sherpa was released from Dillibazar Prison on Monday after paying the monetary equivalent of his sentence in a polygamy case.

According to Kathmandu District Court sources, Sherpa was freed following an order by Judge Anand Prasad Shrestha, which allowed his release upon payment of the fine.

Sherpa had been sentenced to one year in prison and fined Rs 5,000 after being found guilty in a polygamy case. He was arrested on November 4 by a team from the Kathmandu District Police Range after remaining at large for some time.

Following his arrest, Sherpa submitted an application to the court requesting to be released by paying the fine in lieu of imprisonment.

The court accepted his request, and he was freed on Monday upon settling the required amount.
