DoFE, EPS Korea branch warns against false job promises in South Korea

KATHMANDU: The Employment Permit System (EPS) Korea Branch under the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has urged aspiring workers not to fall prey to false promises or misleading information about job opportunities in South Korea.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the EPS Korea Branch clarified that the worker selection process through South Korea’s EPS system is fair, transparent, and reliable, and that no individual, company, or social media platform has the authority to influence it.

The Branch cautioned the public against fraudulent assurances and misinformation spread through fake Facebook pages and other social media accounts impersonating the EPS Korea Branch.

“It has come to our notice that several fake social media pages have been created using the Branch’s name to mislead service-seekers,” the statement said.

The Branch further appealed to those studying the Korean language or awaiting their turn for job placement (‘issue’) to avoid following such baseless and deceptive content.

Since the signing of the Employment Permit System (EPS) agreement between the Governments of Nepal and South Korea in 2007, around 120,000 Nepali workers have obtained employment opportunities in South Korea through this system.

Explaining the official process, the Branch stated that the Human Resources Development Service (HRD) of Korea registers the job files and lists candidates on a roster.

“Employment selection is carried out by job centres under Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labour, which deliver these files to employers. The employers then select workers and send the labour contract through Korea’s official employment selection system,” the statement added.

The EPS Korea Branch reiterated its commitment to maintaining fairness and transparency in the worker selection process and urged all stakeholders to rely only on official sources for information.
