1.2 million driving licenses being printed, distribution within six months

KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management is set to begin printing driver’s licenses from Friday at the Security Printing Center in Kavre, according to Executive Director Devraj Dhungana.

In the first phase, the department plans to print 500 licenses per day, with a total of 1.2 million licenses to be produced. The printing will officially commence on Friday, inaugurated by Minister for Communication, Information and Technology Jagdish Kharel.

The Security Printing Center said the printed licenses will be distributed within six months after completing the necessary processing.

The department and the Security Printing Center had reached an agreement on May 23 to print the remaining pending licenses.

The Department of Transport Management has allocated around Rs 270 million for the printing. The new batch of licenses will reportedly cost Rs 100 less per card compared to the previous production.
