Madhav Nepal expels six leaders from Unified Socialist following party merger

KATHMANDU: Madhav Kumar Nepal has expelled six leaders, including General Secretary Ghanshyam Bhusal and Ram Kumari Jhankri, from the Unified Socialist Party, now merged into the Nepali Communist Party, following the unification of 10 parties.

The expulsions were carried out on Wednesday, just a day after the merger formalized the formation of the new Nepali Communist Party.

According to a party statement, the Central Secretariat, exercising powers granted by the third meeting of the Central Committee, expelled the leaders under Article 121(2) of the party statute.

The statement said the expelled leaders violated party decisions by holding meetings and press conferences contrary to the resolutions of the central committee meeting held from Kartik 12–14.

Those expelled are Ghanshyam Bhusal, Ramkumari Jhankri, Damodar Aryal, Nandlal Banjade, Dharmraj Nirola, and Krishnakumar Shrestha (Kisan).

The statement, signed by party Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal, warned that any individual using the party’s name or position for gatherings, meetings, press conferences, or other activities against party policy will face disciplinary action.

This move signals the new leadership’s effort to enforce discipline and consolidate authority in the newly merged party.
