Nepali Congress central committee meeting continues, debate on timing of 15th National Convention intensifies

KATHMANDU: The central committee meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) is ongoing today at the party’s central office in Sanepa. The meeting, which began on October 14, continues with party members discussing various issues, including the timing for the 15th national convention and the current political situation.

According to NC’s Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel, the meeting started at 11:30 AM today. Discussions have primarily focused on the party’s upcoming national convention and the state of current politics.

The central committee members are particularly divided over when to hold the 15th national convention. Some members argue for holding the regular convention by January 2026, while others believe the convention should be postponed until after the general elections, scheduled for March 5, 2026.

During today’s meeting, General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa proposed holding the regular national convention from December 31 to January 3, suggesting that this timeframe would allow better preparation for the party following the elections.

In the ongoing discussions, prominent members like Deputy General Secretary Farmullah Mansoor and central committee members, including Prakashman Singh, Padmanarayan Chaudhary, Jiban Bahadur Shahi, Surendra Raj Pandey, Shankar Bhandari, Krishna Kishore Ghimire, Taraman Gurung, Angelu Sherpa, Madan Bahadur Amatya, Chandrabhadur KC, Abdul Sattar, Uday Shamsher Rana, Anjani Shrestha, Champadevi Khadka, Javed Khatun Jaga, and Dr. Govindraj Pokhrel, have also shared their views on the matter.

As the central committee continues to deliberate, the outcome of these discussions will play a key role in shaping the future course of Nepali Congress, especially as the party prepares for the upcoming general elections and the leadership transition ahead.
