High-level probe commission records statement from Rabi Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: The high-level probe commission investigating the events of September 8 and 9 has recorded a statement from Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane.

Lamichhane, currently in judicial custody at Nakkhu Prison in Lalitpur on charges of cooperative fraud, was brought to the commission’s office in Singha Durbar on Wednesday for questioning.

Sources said the commission inquired about the circumstances under which Lamichhane temporarily left the prison premises during the Gen-Z protest on September 9. Lamichhane maintained that his release was based on an official letter from the prison administration, while the administration cited security reasons for allowing him to leave temporarily.

Earlier, the commission had recorded a statement from Nakkhu Prison Chief Satyaraj Joshi regarding the same incident.

The High-Level Inquiry Commission, headed by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, was established by the government to investigate the events surrounding the Gen-Z movement.

In addition to Lamichhane, the commission is preparing to record statements from his wife, Nikita Poudel, and acting RSP President DP Aryal.
