Bishnu Rija links Nepal’s socialist strength to Madan Bhandari’s vision

BEIJING: CPN-UML central committee member Bishnu Rijal has stated that while the global socialist movement has weakened, it has become stronger in Nepal. He made this remark while addressing the 15th International Conference on The Crossroads of World History and the Choice of People of All Nations, held in Beijing on November 3-4.

Rijal explained that the strength of the socialist movement in Nepal is largely attributed to the concept of Nepali Socialism, as proposed by the late Madan Bhandari, former General Secretary of CPN-UML. He emphasized that the principles of People’s Multiparty Democracy, which Bhandari introduced, have provided a solid foundation for socialism in Nepal.

“Under the leadership of CPN-UML President KP Sharma Oli, the national aspirations of a prosperous Nepal and a happy Nepali have made the socialist movement in Nepal stronger,” Rijal stated in his address.

The conference, which saw the participation of around 300 delegates from 33 countries, also provided Rijal an opportunity to clarify the causes and impacts of the recent Gen-Z movement in Nepal.

He discussed how the movement, under the guise of protest, led to violence, destruction, and arson, which eventually resulted in the removal of the UML-led government. Rijal condemned the post-movement government as “undemocratic and unconstitutional.”

Rijal further asserted the need for continuous struggle against capitalism and imperialism. While acknowledging the challenges, he stressed that such efforts are essential for the advancement of the working class.

The address was part of a broader conversation at the conference about global political shifts and the role of socialist movements in shaping the future of nations.
