KATHMANDU: The government’s Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund, set up to repair structures damaged during the Gen-Z protests of September 8 and 9, has collected Rs 62.4 million so far, according to the Ministry of Finance.
Finance Ministry Spokesperson Tank Prasad Pandey said the amount was deposited into the fund’s account as of Monday evening. The fund aims to rebuild public properties, government offices, and local infrastructure that were damaged by arson, vandalism, and encroachment during the demonstrations.
The government had formally appealed on October 14 for contributions from the public, private sector, non-resident Nepalis, development partners, donors, entrepreneurs, and various organizations.
To encourage participation, the government has allowed contributions made during the current fiscal year to be listed as deductible expenses for tax purposes. The collected amount is being managed through a special account (No. 1960100102070004) at Rastriya Banijya Bank’s Singha Durbar branch.
