KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel is scheduled to address the main session of the “Second World Summit for Social Development” in Doha today.
According to Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, President Paudel, who arrived in Qatar on Monday, will deliver his remarks during the summit’s main session this afternoon.
The summit, which began on Tuesday, will continue until Thursday. President Paudel is leading a 12-member Nepali delegation to the event at the invitation of the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Following his address, President Paudel is also expected to hold meetings with the Amir of Qatar and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, among other dignitaries.
The first such summit was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995, and this year’s edition hosted by Qatar focuses on addressing global development disparities, demographic imbalances, and the social impacts of technology. The conference aims to foster global cooperation and shared commitments for social progress.
Nepal’s participation carries special significance as the country currently chairs the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). President Paudel is scheduled to return home on November 5.
