Italian climber rescued from Pangbari Himal, search for two continues



GORKHA: One of three Italian nationals stranded on Pangbari Himal in Gorkha for five days has been rescued, while the search for the remaining two continues, police said.

Sixty-five-year-old Velter Perlino, who was at the base camp at an altitude of 5,000 meters, was rescued by helicopter at 10 am today and brought to Chumanubri-1 Samdo, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Shrestha.

Also rescued were Pemba Renji Sherpa, Dawa Chiri Sherpa, and Pasang Tamang, who had been accompanying him.

The search is ongoing for 67-year-old Stefano Farronato and 37-year-old Alessandro Gaputo, who were at Camp-1, located at an altitude of 5,500 meters.

The three Italian climbers, along with three Nepali helpers, had been stranded at the base camp of Pangbari Himal since last Wednesday.
