Bhattarai backs Oli’s call for return of former UML cadres

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has welcomed party chair KP Sharma Oli’s recent call for former leaders and cadres who had left the party to return, describing the move as “timely and necessary.”

In a social media post on Saturday, Bhattarai wrote, “The call made by Chairman Oli to comrades who contributed to building the CPN-UML to once again join this movement is both welcome and contextually relevant.”

He emphasized that uniting the left movement under the ideological guidance of Janata Ko Bahudaliya Janabad (People’s Multiparty Democracy) is the national imperative of the moment.

Bhattarai asserted that UML should serve as the “common center” for those who believe in peaceful, lawful, and competitive means of achieving progressive transformation in society. “Comrades, let us join hands on these same principles,” he appealed.

Calling for reconciliation, he urged all factions to abandon “denial, revenge, and hatred,” and instead strengthen UML through cooperation and coexistence.

Outlining a four-point basis for unity, Bhattarai proposed:

  • Accepting People’s Multiparty Democracy as the guiding principle.
  • Recognizing the contributions of Pushpa Lal Shrestha, Madan Bhandari, and Manmohan Adhikari.
  • Objectively reviewing the circumstances after the events of September 8–9, 2025, and undertaking multidimensional restructuring.
  • Building an egalitarian society under UML leadership.
