Beni–Darbang road blocked for three days due to landslide

MYAGDI: The Beni–Darbang road, which links three local levels in western Myagdi to the district headquarters, Benibazaar, has remained blocked for the past three days following a landslide.

The landslide occurred at Phaparkhet (Ghumaune) on the border of Beni Municipality–4 and Mangala Rural Municipality–2, cutting off direct road access to Mangala, Malika, and Dhaulagiri rural municipalities since Thursday.

The obstruction has caused significant inconvenience to locals, halting the transport of daily essentials, construction materials, and agricultural and livestock products from rural areas. Supplies for hydropower, road, building, transmission line, and substation projects have also been disrupted.

Transport entrepreneur Yagya Bahadur Thapa said that landslide debris has piled up on the road, while fresh slides continue from above, posing risks to vehicles and passengers.

The Infrastructure Development Office, Myagdi — which is upgrading the Beni–Darbang road — said that it has begun mobilizing machinery to clear the debris now that rainfall has stopped since this morning.
