KMC gives seven-day ultimatum to clear encroached land, illegal structures

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has issued a public notice giving individuals and institutions seven days to clear encroached land and remove structures built in violation of standards within its jurisdiction.

According to the notice published on Friday, the directive follows a decision made on September 18 by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority. The notice warns that if encroached land and illegal constructions are not cleared within the given timeframe, the city will take action and remove them by force.

The statement reads, “Encroached public land and structures built contrary to standards within the Kathmandu Metropolitan area and adjoining areas of Kathmandu district must be cleared within seven days, or the city will proceed with enforcement measures.”

This renewed action marks the resumption of Mayor Balen Shah’s earlier anti-encroachment drive, which had been halted due to controversies and resistance in previous months.
