Weather disruptions affect flights at Tribhuvan Airport

KATHMANDU: Due to adverse weather conditions, flights across Nepal have been impacted, with visibility issues causing delays in both domestic and international flights departing from Tribhuvan International Airport.

Currently, international flights are on hold, and flights to mountain regions such as Lukla (Tenzing Hillary Airport) and Simikot in Humla are experiencing significant disruptions.

According to Hansraj Pandey, the airport’s general manager, only Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flights are currently being operated. While some flights have been delayed, there have been no cancellations. The situation is complicated by limited air routes, causing increased congestion.

The weather disturbance is caused by a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea and westerly winds affecting the country. The Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted light to moderate snowfall and rainfall in parts of Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces, with isolated incidents of snow in the mountainous regions of the remaining provinces from last night through Wednesday morning.

The sky in Kathmandu valley has been overcast since the morning.
