Arun River ferry service resumes at Satighat

BHOJPUR: The ferry service across the Arun River at Satighat, linking Bhojpur and Sankhuwasabha from the north, has resumed after a six-month closure.

The service, which had been halted since Jestha due to monsoon-related flooding, was brought back into operation on Monday.

In the absence of a concrete bridge, the ferry remains the primary mode of transport for vehicles and essential goods across the river. Its suspension during the rainy season had severely disrupted the movement of locals and passengers in the northern part of the district, forcing them to carry food and supplies on their backs over a suspension bridge.

The resumption of service has brought much-needed relief to residents of Shadananda Municipality and Salpasilicho Rural Municipality. Locals said daily life had become difficult during the shutdown.

“It’s a huge relief to have the ferry running again after five months,” said local resident Dipendra Shrestha. “Without it, we had to carry our goods on our backs across the bridge. A concrete bridge here would solve this problem permanently.”

The ferry continues to serve as a crucial transportation lifeline for the northern region of Bhojpur.
