PM urges parties to treat upcoming elections as nat’l festival

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged all political parties and citizens to view the upcoming elections as a national celebration of democracy and to actively participate in ensuring their success.

Extending greetings on the occasion of the Chhath festival on Monday morning, Prime Minister Karki called on the public to express their views and grievances through the ballot in the election scheduled for March 5, 2026.

Prime Minister Karki offers prayers at Kamal Pokhari Chhath Ghat

Prime Minister Sushila Karki visited Kamal Pokhari in Kathmandu on Monday afternoon to offer prayers on the occasion of Chhath festival. During her visit, Prime Minister Karki performed rituals and offered arghya (obeisance) to the setting sun. She was welcomed at the site by members of the Chhath Management Committee. On the main day of the Chhath festival, devotees across the country worship and make offerings to the setting sun in the evening.

Govt to hold dialogue with Gen-Z representatives and political parties on Wednesday

The government has decided to hold a dialogue with Gen-Z representatives and political parties on Wednesday to create a conducive environment for the upcoming elections. According to government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, the meeting has been scheduled for 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Minister Kharel said that representatives from various Gen-Z groups, political parties, and the government will participate in the talks. “The government is fully committed to creating an atmosphere for elections,” he told Khabarhub, adding, “We are not going into the elections by excluding any political force or ignoring the sentiments of the Gen-Z movement. The election process will move forward inclusively.”

Rain and snowfall likely from tonight

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast light to moderate rainfall and snowfall across parts of the country from tonight due to the influence of a westerly wind system and a low-pressure system formed over the Arabian Sea. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, this weather system is expected to bring light to moderate rain and snowfall from the night of October 27 until the morning of October 29. Light to moderate precipitation is likely in some areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces, as well as in a few hilly and mountainous regions of other provinces. A few high-altitude areas of Gandaki Province may also experience heavy snowfall.

Clashes erupt between two groups in Harinagar, Sunsari; joint patrol with army deployed to prevent violence

A clash broke out between two groups in Ramnagar Bhutaha of Harinagar Rural Municipality-2, Sunsari, on Sunday night. Following the incident, security has been tightened in the area. The dispute reportedly began over a dice game and escalated into a physical confrontation, injuring 11 people. To prevent further violence, joint patrol teams comprising the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police have been mobilized.

Police disperse group attempting to incite violence at KIST Hospital in the name of Gen-Z

Tension flared at KIST Hospital in Lalitpur after relatives of a woman who died during pregnancy accused doctors of negligence. The enraged relatives broke through police barriers and vandalized hospital property. Former lawmaker Ram Kumar Rai (Pasang) and other local leaders arrived at the hospital for talks. While discussions were ongoing, another group claiming to represent the Gen-Z movement arrived at the hospital premises with loudspeakers.

Health Minister Sharma assures proper treatment for Gen-Z protest injured

Health and Population Minister Dr. Sudha Sharma Gautam has confirmed that those injured during the recent Gen-Z protests are receiving proper medical care. Minister Sharma, appointed Education Minister on Sunday, visited Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) on Monday to review the condition of the injured. She reported that three individuals wounded during the protests are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Energy Minister Ghising departs for India, skips VIP lounge

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Kulman Ghising, left for New Delhi on Monday to attend the eighth assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA). The assembly, taking place from October 27 to 30, 2025 (Kartik 10–13), will focus on clean energy access and regional and global energy interconnections. Minister Ghising is scheduled to present Nepal’s commitments in these areas during the event. During his departure from Tribhuvan International Airport, Minister Ghising chose not to use the VIP lounge and instead waited with regular passengers before boarding. He traveled on a Nepal Airlines business class flight.

‘Janadalat’ banner raises concern after Gen-Z protests burn court files

Following the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9, which saw dozens of court buildings, including the Supreme Court, set on fire and thousands of case files destroyed, a “Janadalat” banner has appeared in Lalitpur, raising fresh concerns about the rule of law. The banner, posted near Bagalamukhi Temple, replicates the so-called people’s courts previously run by Maoists during their decade-long insurgency. It invites citizens to seek justice for cases involving cooperatives, microfinance, banks, or other government offices.

Leaders urge govt to recover looted weapons, arrest escaped inmates before elections

Political leaders from major parties have urged the government to recover weapons looted during the recent Gen-Z protests and arrest inmates who escaped from prisons, warning that elections cannot be held in an atmosphere of fear and instability. During discussions on the country’s security situation and preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for March 5, leaders said the government must ensure peace and security before moving forward with the polls.

Historic Kartik Naach begins in Patan from today

The centuries-old Kartik Naach, one of Kathmandu valley’s most celebrated traditional dance dramas, is set to begin today at the Patan Durbar Dabali. According to the organizing committee, all preparations for the 385th edition of the historic performance have been completed. The festival, which starts this evening, will continue every night until November 5.

144 new dengue cases reported across Nepal in the past week

Nepal has recorded 144 new cases of dengue across the country in the past week, indicating that the mosquito-borne disease continues to spread even beyond the usual monsoon season. According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), 24 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours alone, bringing the total number of dengue cases in Nepal to 6,668.

Kavre police intensify probe into Gen Z movement vandalism

Kavre District Police have launched a special investigation into incidents of vandalism, arson, and looting during the Gen Z movement. Complaints have been lodged over damage to six private structures, prompting authorities to gather evidence and plan further arrests. So far, 11 individuals linked to attacks on public and private properties have been arrested, and investigations continue. Police are also inspecting government buildings and public infrastructure damaged during the unrest.

Prachanda calls for unity and collaboration among progressive forces

Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Coordinator of the General Convention Organizing Committee of the CPN (Maoist Centre), has underscored the need to strengthen unity, mutual respect, and collaboration among progressive forces to build a just and prosperous Nepal. Extending his best wishes on the occasion of Chhath, Dahal said the festival represents faith, social harmony, and gratitude toward nature. “By fostering mutual respect, social harmony, and cooperation among progressive forces, we can collectively move towards building a prosperous, just, and socialist Nepal,” he said in his message.

Gold price drops by Rs 2,000 per tola

The price of gold has decreased by Rs 2,000 per tola in the domestic market on Monday. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Associations, the price of fine gold has been fixed at Rs 239,900 per tola, down from Rs 241,900 per tola on the previous trading day. On Sunday, the price had already fallen sharply by Rs 11,600 per tola. In total, since the end of the Tihar festival, gold has declined by Rs 13,600 per tola.

Govt urges trekkers to check weather updates before heading to high-hill regions

The government has urged trekkers to obtain up-to-date weather information from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology before embarking on treks in the Himalayan and high-hill regions. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has advised travelers to review advance forecasts and alerts, assess potential health risks, and make adequate preparations before setting out. It has also urged trekkers not to travel alone and to descend to lower altitudes for treatment if they feel unwell.
