Chhath festival strengthens national unity: President Paudel



KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has expressed confidence that the Chhath festival will inspire Nepalis to further strengthen national unity and social harmony.

In his message of best wishes on the occasion of Chhath festival on Monday, President Paudel said the celebration symbolizes purity, faith, and respect for nature.

“I am confident that this festival will inspire all Nepalis to end discrimination, injustice, and social anomalies related to class, caste, and gender; to strengthen mutual harmony; and to preserve our original culture,” he stated.

He further said that Chhath would contribute to achieving sustainable peace, good governance, development, and prosperity. The festival, which involves worshipping Chhathi Mata and paying homage to the sun, water, and earth, is marked by fasting, offering prayers, and staying awake through the night on riverbanks, ponds, and lakes.

President Paudel also highlighted the festival’s environmental and spiritual significance. “By worshipping the setting and rising sun, we acknowledge that life on earth is impossible without the sun. The observance of Chhath expresses gratitude to nature, raises environmental awareness, and strengthens family and social bonds,” he said.
