Gopalman calls for all-party dialogue, including monarchy, to resolve political crisis

KATHMANDU: Senior Nepali Congress leader Gopalman Shrestha has called for a new approach that includes the monarchy in a multi-party dialogue to address the country’s political challenges.

Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu on Sunday, Shrestha emphasized the need to move beyond divisive politics and foster cooperation, coexistence, and dialogue. He stressed that traditional powers, political parties, and even dissenting voices from the Gen-Z movement should be part of an inclusive national discussion.

“An all-party dialogue is essential, including the monarchy, traditional power centers, political parties, and Gen-Z activists with differing views,” he said. “This is a matter of urgent national importance.”

Shrestha highlighted the need to uphold national sovereignty and independence while protecting the country from internal and external interference. “We cannot afford delays. We must address these issues swiftly,” he added.

Referring to himself as a follower of BP Koirala, Ganeshman Singh, and Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, Shrestha said he seeks to rise above partisan politics and contribute to national unity. He urged leaders to take an active and responsible role in organizing inclusive national consultations.

He also criticized current attempts to undermine political parties through NGOs and restrictive policies, warning that such actions pose a threat to democracy, national integrity, and sovereignty.
