KATHMANDU: Nepal pulled off a thrilling 5-run victory over Qatar in the ICC T20 World Cup Asia-East Asia Pacific Qualifiers Super Six, currently underway in Oman.
Batting first, Nepal set a target of 148 runs. In response, Qatar were bowled out for 142 runs in 19 overs, falling just short of the target.
Nepal’s bowlers delivered a standout performance, with spinner Sandeep Lamichhane leading the charge. He took 5 wickets for just 18 runs in 3.5 overs, playing a decisive role in securing the win.
With this performance, Lamichhane also reached a significant personal milestone—claiming his 250th wicket in international cricket.
Monday also marked a historic moment for Nepali cricket, as the national team played its 100th international match under the captaincy of Rohit Kumar Paudel.
Paudel has led Nepal in 30 T20 Internationals, recording 18 wins and 3 draws. In ODIs, the team has registered 25 wins and 20 losses under his leadership.
Thanks to Paudel’s steady captaincy and a united squad, Nepal now stands within reach of qualifying for the T20 World Cup.
