Govt approves fund transfer for reconstruction and election management

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to issue an order allowing fund transfers without budgetary limits to cover reconstruction costs of public structures damaged during the Gen-Z movement and to manage expenditures required for the upcoming elections.

Making public the Cabinet decisions on Friday, government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel said the decision enables authorities to reallocate funds from ongoing programs under the current fiscal year’s approved plan. “If additional funds are required for reconstruction and election purposes, such allocations can be made without maintaining the usual transfer ceiling,” Minister Kharel stated.

The Cabinet meeting also decided to form a negotiation team led by a joint secretary from the Ministry of Finance to finalize concessional loan assistance worth USD 100 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Similarly, the government has approved the transfer of eight gazetted first-class officers from the Nepal Justice Service (Judicial Group).

According to Minister Kharel, the Cabinet also promoted three Major Generals from the Nepal Army’s Technical Health Service Group to the rank of Brigadier General.

In addition, the meeting approved the transfer of 15 joint secretaries and endorsed a proposal to table the “Bill on the Operation of Alternative Finance” in the federal parliament.
