Government decides to dissolve Land Problems Settlement Commission and all district committees

The government has decided to dissolve the Land Problems Settlement Commission along with all its district committees. Government spokesperson Jagdish Kharel stated that the cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Thursday decided to dissolve the commission, which was formed under the Land Problems Settlement Commission Formation Order 2081 BS, and all associated district committees.

Meeting between President and Prime Minister follows Cabinet session

Prime Minister Sushila Karki met with President Ram Chandra Poudel. The meeting took place at the President’s residence, Sheetal Niwas, immediately after today’s Cabinet meeting. According to Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel, the discussion between the President and the Prime Minister focused on recent political developments in the country, the upcoming elections, and other current issues.

Commission returns complaint against Oli and Lekhak, says criminal investigation should proceed through police

The 2082 Inquiry Commission, formed to investigate the physical and human damages during demonstrations across various parts of the country on September 8-9, has decided to return the complaints to the District Police Office, Kathmandu. The decision was taken during the commission’s Thursday meeting at Singha Durbar, where complaints filed by four individuals, including Purushottam Khatri, father of the deceased Rashik Khatri, were discussed.

Gen-Z Movement martyrs’ families demand three ministries from government

The families of Gen-Z Movement martyrs have demanded three ministries from the government. On Thursday, the Gen-Z Martyrs’ Family Struggle Committee held a press conference in Kathmandu, stating that the government, which was formed by the blood of the martyrs, had ignored them, and that their presence in the cabinet was necessary as a warning.

BP Highway to reopen by Friday

The BP Highway, damaged at 16 locations due to flooding in the Roshi River, is expected to reopen by Friday, according to the Department of Roads.Repairs have been completed on nine damaged sections, covering about 1,845 meters, while work such as diversion construction and maintenance is ongoing on the remaining seven locations, totaling 1,997 meters, said department spokesperson Prabhat Kumar Jha.

Minister Ghising directs construction company to speed up work at TU Cricket Ground

Minister for Energy, Physical Infrastructure, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising has instructed the construction company to complete and hand over the TU Cricket Ground project in Kirtipur as soon as possible. During an on-site inspection on Thursday, Minister Ghising urged the company to speed up the work, noting that the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) is approaching.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City to sterilize stray dogs and cats at Rs 2,500 per animal

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced a program to sterilize and vaccinate stray dogs and cats on city streets. Under the “Dog and Cat Sterilization, Peace Management, and Sheltering Program” launched for the fiscal year 2025/26, the metropolis has invited proposals from community organizations or groups interested in carrying out the sterilization and vaccination work.

Rastriya Banijya Bank warns customers about fraudulent calls and messages

Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB) has alerted its customers about recent reports of unauthorized individuals contacting them in the bank’s name to carry out fraudulent activities. The bank said it has received information that scammers are seeking personal details, making false offers, and luring customers with promises of financial gain. In a press release issued on Thursday, the bank emphasized that no RBB employee or authorized representative will ever contact customers via phone, email, social media, or other channels to request ATM PINs, mobile banking or e-banking OTPs, passwords, or any other confidential personal information.

NEPSE ends week with modest gain

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) saw only a modest gain on Thursday, despite opening with a positive circuit in the first three minutes of trading. The market ended the day up 22.59 points at 2,582.18, after total transactions worth Rs 5.27 billion. On Thursday, among the stocks traded, 200 companies recorded price increases, while 41 saw declines, and 10 remained unchanged. Bindabasini Hydropower investors gained the most from sales, whereas Three Star Hydropower sellers faced the largest losses.

Shankar Pokharel says ‘Gen-Z’ is a western-imposed identity

CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that the term “Gen-Z” does not represent Nepali youth, arguing that it is an identity imposed by Western influence. Speaking at a UML event in Bhaktapur on Thursday, Pokharel remarked that the concept of “Gen-Z” was introduced by the West and does not align with Nepal’s cultural values or historical continuity.

Oli ridicules reported ban on leaving Kathmandu Valley

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Thursday mocked what he described as an absurd restriction barring him from traveling outside the Kathmandu Valley, questioning whether he was expected to flee out of fear of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. Addressing a party gathering in Bhaktapur, Oli ridiculed the order allegedly limiting his movement beyond the Valley, calling it a political spectacle.

Oli mocks Home Minister Aryal, says ‘don’t overreact’

CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has advised Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal to remain calm and avoid being provoked, saying that running the country is not a matter of jokes or impulsive decisions. Speaking at a UML program in Bhaktapur on Thursday, Oli said he did not even know Aryal before his appointment as home minister.

UML’s Mishra rejects Oli’s call to reinstating House

Som Prasad Mishra, a central member of the CPN-UML, has openly opposed party chairman KP Sharma Oli’s call to launch a movement to reinstate the dissolved House of Representatives. Through a Facebook post on Thursday, Mishra stated that he would not participate in what he described as an unnecessary political step.

Pokharel defends Oli, says no PM has ever been punished during conflict

CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that spreading hatred against party chairman KP Sharma Oli is against Nepal’s cultural values. IPPAN tells govt to announce relief package for flood-hit hydropower projects

The Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) has urged the government to announce a comprehensive relief package for hydropower projects damaged by recent floods and landslides. During a meeting with Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Kulman Ghising on Wednesday, IPPAN President Ganesh Karki said the government must come forward with a targeted package to support the reconstruction and recovery of affected projects.

Nicholas Bhusal arrested at Maitighar while attempting to lead protest

Police have arrested Dr. Nicholas Bhusal and several other youths from Maitighar Mandala on Sunday morning while they attempted to stage a protest. According to police, Bhusal, along with SP Sah and others, was taken into custody before the demonstration could begin. Bartaula accuses Home Minister of orchestrating violence during Gen-Z movement

Bartola alleged that the Home Minister played a central role in the network of sponsors and planners who infiltrated the peaceful protest, inciting violence and destruction.

Gold continues to hit record high 

Gold and silver continued their upward surge in the Nepali market. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold has hit a record Rs 2,39,200 per tola.

Insurance claims from Gen-Z protest reach Rs 23.22 billion

The total amount of insurance claims filed for property and other damages caused during the Gen-Z protest of September 8 and 9 has reached Rs 23.22 billion, according to the Nepal Insurance Authority. As of October 8, a total of 3,099 claims have been lodged across 14 non-life insurance companies and four micro non-life insurance firms, amounting to Rs 23.22 billion.
