KATHMANDU: Senior Nepal Communist Party (UML) leader Mahesh Bartaula has accused Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal of being responsible for orchestrating violence during the Gen-Z movement, demanding his immediate arrest.
Bartola alleged that the Home Minister played a central role in the network of sponsors and planners who infiltrated the peaceful protest, inciting violence and destruction.
“The Home Minister must account for the weapons and ammunition seized by police during the movement, including their current whereabouts,” Bartola said.
He claimed that while the movement was intended to highlight demands for anti-corruption measures and good governance, a network of instigators linked to Aryal infiltrated it to provoke destruction.
Bartola said these actors were involved in damaging residential and commercial properties, setting fires, and looting. Key government buildings, including Singha Durbar, the Parliament, the Supreme Court, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, and police stations, were also targeted in acts of vandalism allegedly orchestrated by the network.
“Based on these serious findings, the Home Minister should be removed from office and investigated under criminal law for acts against the state,” Bartola said.
He further criticized the government for failing to take legal action against those responsible, saying the inaction has fueled lawlessness and impunity across the country. Bartola also called for immediate administrative, legal, and educational measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
