Floods, landslides cut off major roads in Koshi and Bagmati provinces

KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall over the past few days has triggered floods and landslides, leaving at least five key road sections in Koshi and Bagmati provinces completely obstructed, police said on Thursday.

According to a situation report issued by Nepal Police at 7 am, road links in Sankhuwasabha’s Bhotkhola Rural Municipality–4 (Barun) and Makalu Rural Municipality–3 (Ekuwa) have been blocked due to heavy rainfall.

In Rasuwa, floodwaters damaged the road near a bridge in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality–2, cutting off access to the Nepal–China border point.

The Pasang Lhamu Highway at the same rural municipality has also been closed after a fresh landslide on Wednesday. Police said the border road has remained obstructed since June 24, when floodwaters first damaged the section.

Similarly, a landslide at Charkilo in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality–4, Sindhupalchok, has blocked the Araniko Highway, a key route to the Chinese border.

Authorities said efforts are underway to clear debris and restore connectivity, but persistent rainfall has slowed down the work.
